WebCyathocaline (53), C 14 H 11 NO 4, mp 222–224°, is a new azafluorenone alkaloid isolated from the stem bark of Cyathocalyx zeylanica Champ, ex Hook. f. and Thoms., a species of the Annonaceae endemic to Sri Lanka (50). Its structure was elucidated using spectroscopic techniques and by chemical derivatization to its acetate. WebA tree, often attaining an immense height. Leaf blade 10 - 24 cm long, 5 - 9 cm, wide, lateral veins including with midrib an angle of about 600. Flowers pale allpe-green, with a scent of a Cherimoya flower. Fruit ovoid, not stipitate, rounded at both ends, glabrous. Seeds semicircular in outline, smelling like nutmeg when dissected.
