WebJun 18, 2024 · Abstract. This chapter is especially dedicated to the optical properties of bismuth oxyhalides. The absorption and reflectance spectra to study the spectral absorption and the band-gap energies of the material, photoluminescence spectra to study the recombination of photoinduced charge-carriers are presented. Bismuth telluride is a narrow-gap layered semiconductor with a trigonal unit cell. The valence and conduction band structure can be described as a many-ellipsoidal model with 6 constant-energy ellipsoids that are centered on the reflection planes. Bi2Te3 cleaves easily along the trigonal axis due to Van der Waals bonding between neighboring tellurium atoms. Due to this, bismuth-telluride-based materials used for power generation or cooling applications must be polycrystalline. Furth…

(PDF) P-type doping of elemental bismuth with indium, gallium and tin: a novel doping mechanism in solids Joseph Heremans - Academia.edu WebWhen the bismuth is doped with antimony, the conduction band decreases in energy and the valence band increases in energy. At an antimony concentration of 4%, the two bands intersect, forming a Dirac point (which is defined as a point where the conduction and valence bands intersect). Further increases in the concentration of antimony result in ... simple word for determine
